Mental Health Counseling

Taking the first step toward therapy is an act of profound courage and a powerful investment in your well-being. Mental health counseling provides a safe, completely confidential, and non-judgmental space where you can slow down, process life’s challenges, and discover your inner strengths. Whether you are navigating a difficult transition, healing from past hurts, or looking for practical tools to manage daily stress and anxiety, counseling is a collaborative partnership tailored entirely to your unique goals. Together, we will explore new perspectives and evidence-based strategies that empower you to break unhelpful cycles, foster deeper self-compassion, and build a more fulfilling, balanced life.

Psychotherapy Treatment Modalities

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a gentle, highly effective therapy designed to help your brain heal from difficult or traumatic memories. When something stressful happens, your brain can sometimes get "stuck" and store that memory with all the original intense emotions, thoughts, and physical feelings.

During an EMDR session, we will focus on a specific difficult memory while using bilateral stimulation—which simply means guided, side-to-side eye movements, gentle hand taps, or listening to alternating tones. This dual attention stimulates both sides of your brain, acting like a natural digestive system for your mind. It allows your brain to reprocess the old memory, stripping away the painful emotional charge so that it finally feels like it is truly in the past, and you can move forward with a sense of calm and safety.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a warm, respectful therapy based on the idea that our minds are made up of different "parts"—almost like an inner family. Every part of you has a good intention and is trying to protect you, even if some of their habits (like anxiety, self-criticism, or people-pleasing) feel frustrating or overwhelming right now.

In an IFS session, we won't try to change or get rid of these parts. Instead, we will safely explore them, understand what they are trying to protect you from, and help them heal from past hurts. Beneath all of these parts is your true Self—the calm, compassionate, and confident core of who you really are. By leading from your Self, you can bring harmony to your inner system, allowing your parts to relax and work together so you feel more balanced and at peace.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) is a practical, collaborative therapy focused on the powerful connection between your thoughts, your feelings, and your actions. When we experience distress, it is often because we have fallen into automatic, unhelpful thinking patterns or behaviors that keep us feeling stuck, anxious, or down.

In our sessions, we will work together like a team of detectives to identify these automatic thought patterns and gently examine how true or helpful they really are. By learning to shift those thoughts and experiment with new ways of reacting, you can directly change how you feel physically and emotionally. CBT is highly active and skills-focused, giving you concrete tools you can practice between sessions to become your own best problem-solver in everyday life.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is a compassionate, skills-based therapy designed to help you navigate intense emotions, manage stress, and build relationships that feel steady and fulfilling. The word "dialectical" simply means trying to balance two opposite ideas at the same time: accepting yourself exactly as you are right now, while also actively working to change the unhelpful habits that are causing you pain.

In DBT, we focus on learning and practicing concrete, real-world tools divided into four key areas: Mindfulness (staying anchored in the present moment), Distress Tolerance (getting through painful moments without making them worse), Emotion Regulation (understanding and shifting your intense feelings), and Interpersonal Effectiveness (communicating your needs clearly while keeping your relationships healthy). It is a highly practical approach that gives you a step-by-step roadmap to handle life's biggest waves with confidence and calm.

Cognitive Processing Therapy

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a structured, empowering approach specifically designed to help you recover from trauma or PTSD. When you go through a traumatic event, it can deeply shake your view of yourself, other people, and the world—often leaving you with painful, stuck thoughts like "It was my fault" or "The world is entirely unsafe." In CPT, we will work together to identify these specific "stuck points." You will learn practical tools to gently challenge these thoughts and rewrite the unhelpful stories the trauma left behind, helping you regain control of your life and find a safe way forward.

Somatic Therapy

Somatic Therapy is a gentle, body-centered approach that recognizes your mind and body are deeply connected. When we experience stress, anxiety, or trauma, our nervous system can trap that tension physically—showing up as chronic tightness, racing thoughts, or a constant feeling of being on edge. Instead of just talking about your challenges, we will slowly pay attention to your physical sensations, posture, and breathing. By safely tracking these bodily signals, we can help your nervous system release that trapped stress, allowing you to move out of survival mode and return to a natural state of calm, safety, and balance.

Reality Therapy

Reality Therapy is a present-focused, highly practical approach based on the idea that almost all human behavior is an attempt to satisfy five basic needs: survival, love and belonging, power, freedom, and fun. When we feel stuck, anxious, or unfulfilled, it is usually because our current choices aren't successfully meeting those needs—especially our need for deep, meaningful connections with others.

Instead of dwelling on the past or diagnosing symptoms, we will look directly at your current actions and choices. Together, we will evaluate what is working and what isn't, and then create a specific, achievable plan to help you change the behaviors you can control. It is an empowering, encouraging therapy that focuses entirely on your personal responsibility, giving you the driver's seat to build a more fulfilling life right now.
